Century return to top step in SuperCup

It was a weekend of celebrations for Century Motorsport, after returning to the top step in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup championship. Ginetta Junior graduate, Gus Burton, claimed pole position in his debut SuperCup qualifying session. He followed this with an impressive 3-2-1 in the weekend’s three races.

Burton got off to an absolutely flying start, setting the fastest lap in Saturday’s qualifying session with a speedy time of 1m09.381s.

In the first race of the weekend, which was also Burton’s first ever race in the Ginetta G55, he lost a couple of positions off the start line but managed to hold onto his third place, chasing Tom Hibbert and Will Burns, who both have plenty of SuperCup experience.

In race 2 on Sunday, Burton learnt from his earlier mistake and got off to a great start, going on to take second place.

Burton was ready to really make his mark in the third and final race of the weekend, shown live on ITV4. The 17 year old claimed his maiden victory, after an incredible drive from P4 (reverse grid of the top 5 from race 2).

Burton and Century head to the next round at Brands Hatch this weekend (8th – 9th August) in second place in both the drivers’ and teams’ championship standings. The Ginetta GT4 SuperCup 2020 championship title certainly looks within reach!
