Porsche Carrera Cup GB continues to be an unmissable feature of every motorsport enthusiast’s calendar. It is still the fastest single marque GT racing championship in the country. Entering the 2022 season with its 350th race, the prestigious Porsche championship returns for its milestone 20th anniversary.
But it is not only a magnetic attraction for spectators. The championship acts as the perfect audition for ambitious drivers keen to prove themselves and accelerate their progression in the world of motorsport. Focusing on pure driver skill, the championship uses identical cars creating a thrilling, close racing environment and features superb facilities for both drivers and teams.
James’s racing career started in karts when he was 8 years old. He won his first championship at age 9, became British Champion at age 12, and continued to win championships breaking lap records that still hold today. The highlight of his karting career was winning the WKA Manufacturers Cup at the famous Daytona International Speedway in Florida, USA.
He made the move into car racing when he was 14 and in his first year won the Ginetta Junior Rookie Championship and the Winter Series Championship with a record breaking win of over 28 seconds. He went on to win the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge Championship in both 2015 and 2018, and was also awarded the BRDC Rising Star status in 2015.
In 2016, due to insufficient funding for racing, he qualified as an ARDS instructor and spent the next 2 years concentrating on instructing. At the end of 2021 he had the opportunity to race in the last 2 rounds of the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup Championship, winning 3 of the 5 races he finished, with 5 fastest laps.
Q. What is your ultimate goal in racing?
A. It’s obviously to become a factory works driver for a big manufacturer racing round the world. But it is very much to make a career out of racing a car. I’m doing something I love so for me I just want to keep that going for as long as I can.
Henry teamed up to race with Century Motorsport at the start of 2021 in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup. After a successful season together he returned for a second year, but in the new G56 instead. Before driving the GT4 he raced mainly in the VW Fun Cup and since he began racing in 2011 he also taken part in Britcar, Legends and the GT Cup.
Q. How old were you when you knew you wanted to race?
A. Always loved racing, grew up watching Mansell race in F1, also loved BTCC and rallying.
Q. What’s your favourite track?
A. Oulton Park or Knockhill.
Q. What do you do before a race to prepare?
A. Normally drive for hours and hours to get there!
Q. What is your ultimate goal in racing?
A. Ahh I’ve got loads, race GT3, BTCC, get SuperCup podiums, generally try to keep up with the youngsters!
