Century Motorsport will once again compete in the highly competitive GT4 class of the 2015 Avon Tyres British GT Championship this season, aiming to retain their 2014 Teams’ Championship title.
Returning to the team in their Ginetta G55 GT4 will be Norway’s Aleksander Schjerpen. The impressive youngster shot onto the British endurance scene in 2014 where he made his debut at the opening round in Oulton Park. Schjerpen scored his first podium of the year in the second race of the weekend before returning to the podium at Snetterton later in the season. Now with a years’ worth of experience, Aleksander is confident that he can be a real title contender in 2015.
Aleksander Schjerpen – Driver, Century Motorsport:
“First of all I am very happy and excited to be back with Century Motorsport for another year in British GT.”
“Looking towards 2015, I am very positive. I have used the winter well preparing myself for the new season. We have a good amount of experience from last year that will help us this season. Last year included a lot of new experiences for me, a new team, new car and especially new tracks. This year it will all be more familiar. “
“I think James and I will be a good match this year, we seem to have the same approach to the season. I think we will have a good chance of being at the top of the GT4 field in 2015.”
Joining Aleksander this year will be James Birch. No stranger to Ginetta machinery or Century Motorsport, Birch joined the team in 2013 for a part season in the Ginetta GT4 Supercup, regularly running at the sharp end of the field during his brief appearance early in the season. Looking to rekindle the relationship, Birch is confident that with Aleksander they can be title contenders this year.
James Birch – Driver, Century Motorsport:
“I am very happy to be joining Century Motorsport alongside Aleksander for an assault on the British GT4 championship. It’s a brilliant opportunity for me to race with the 2014 Teams’ Championship winners, with a competitive driver and car setup. With this strong foundation I cannot wait to get my teeth stuck in Oulton and put a marker down as title contenders.”
“It’s a pleasure to be welcomed back and join forces with Nathan, and the rest of the fantastic Century family again. This is a team that Aleksander and I have both worked successfully with before, so hopefully we will hit the ground running at the Media Day.”
“I don’t see any reason why Aleksander and I shouldn’t be aiming to lead the field and challenge for podiums and victories at the very first round. We have all been working hard off-circuit to bring this together, so I’m more ambitious than ever to add another championship title to my repertoire. I see this year as an opportunity to test myself in a new challenge and prove my ability in a GT car.”
Nathan Freke – Team Principal, Century Motorsport:
“I’m delighted that we are returning to British GT4 this year with such a strong line up. We signed Aleksander a number of weeks ago when we visited him in Norway for a weekend of fun in the snow at his circuit, Valerbanen. James returning to the team is great and really shows the quality of our team that drivers continue to return to achieve their goals with us. Having won the Teams’ Championship last year, it’s very much our intention to retain that title again this year with our strong new driver pairing.”
