Having only stepped into the Porsche Carrera Cup with Rosland Gold Racing by Century Motorsport in Round 5, Josh Malin has had what can only be described as an incredibly stellar year!
The 23 year old Dorset driver is a true inspirational story of overcoming the odds, after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes aged only 4. Despite being told he would never be able to follow his dream of being a racing driver due to this condition, he wouldn’t let anything stand in his way. Malin kept pushing until he got in a racing car aged 16, and came second place in his first ever race.
From there he has shown true grit and determination to overcome any obstacles, and this year has been a real reflection of his passion.
After joining Rosland Gold Racing by Century Motorsport at Thruxton, having missed the first four rounds, he came storming in at P3 in the first race and P2 in the second. He went from strength to strength with consistent performances as the season went on, gaining multiple podiums and coming close to winning races, had it not been for some circumstances beyond his control.
In August, Malin was granted one of the the most desirable and prestigious awards in motorsport, the BRDC “Rising Star”status and at the end of the season, Porsche declared Josh their “Driver of the Year” 2023. On top of that, helping the team bring home the Teams Champions trophy in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and himself coming 3rd in the Driver’s Championship, you could say it’s been quite the successful few months for Josh!
Team Principal Nathan Freke: “It’s been a pleasure working with Josh in 2023. He got dropped in at the deep end at Thruxton having never worked with us, and came home with two podiums. His form continued throughout the year, earning him 3rd in the Championship, despite missing the first 4 races. He is clearly a naturally talented driver and deserves to be on the grid in 2024.”
Malin is now looking to mount a realistic Championship challenge for 2024 and is looking for funding to give him the best chances of achieving that goal. Please get in touch if you are interested in being part of one of the most exciting young driving talents in the 2024 season.
