Fenny Compton-based team, Century Motorsport, will be fielding a second BMW M6 GT3 in this year’s British GT Championship. Talented duo, Ben Green and Dominic Paul, will be behind the wheel of BMW Motorsport’s flagship customer-racing model.
Century-regular Green, finished as Vice Champion – just one point behind the sister-BMW – in the British GT4 standings last year. In 2017, Waltham Abbey’s Green finished as Vice Champion in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup with Century Motorsport, with an astonishing seven wins and thirteen podiums.
After taking a break from a successful career of racing Caterhams, Paul returned in 2016 and won the GT Cup Group A Championship with an incredible 14 victories. Last year he raced in the Le Mans Prototype Series and came fourth overall. Paul is no stranger to Century Motorsport after racing with the team for two years running in the Dubai 24 Hour.
Bringing a two-car GT3 team to the seven-round championship will give the team strength in numbers. The BMW M6 GT3 is the top model in BMW Motorsport’s Customer Racing range, having proved its strength in performance on numerous occasions, including winning the 24 hours of Spa in 2016 and 2018, with a 1-2 result in 2018.
2018 saw Century Motorsport’s most successful season to date – winning a total of five championship titles – two of those being British GT4 titles.Earlier this month, two of Century Motorsport’s British GT drivers from last season were chosen by BMW Motorsport to take part in a shoot-out for a place on the BMW Motorsport Junior programme.Working so closely with the German manufacturer provides all our drivers a huge opportunity to further their career. 2019 is set to bring the team even more success with the addition of the GT3 campaign.
Oulton Park hosts the season-opener of the British GT Championship on Easter weekend, 20th – 22nd April. There will be two one-hour races on Monday 22nd.
Nathan Freke, Owner of Century Motorsport:
“We are so pleased to be adding a second M6 to our programme this year. After the announcement of the first M6, it generated a huge amount of interest and putting the deal together with Dom and Ben is fantastic. Ben is into his third season with us now and Dom has done the last two Dubai 24 hours with us. Both drivers are incredibly committed, focussed and have a great racing pedigree. I am sure this will be a very strong driver pairing and a very enjoyable one to work with.
It’s really great to have two of our GT4 drivers stepping up to GT3 [the other driver being Jack Mitchell] – this shows the progression opportunities that are available within the team. 2019 looks to be shaping up to be a great year for Century Motorsport. It’s been a long wait since the last round in September and we are all excited and ready for the start of the season.”
Green:
“I’m really excited to get started this year racing again with Century Motorsport in British GT! It’s great to be stepping up to the GT3 category and racing in the BMW M6 GT3 car! The M6 has been very successful in Europe since it’s release and it’s a great feeling to be introducing the BMW brand to the British GT3 category, especially after our success last season racing the M4 GT4 in British GT. I’m looking forward to partnering Dominic as I feel with our competitive attitude we will work well together! I’d like to thank my sponsors for their continued support of me as I step up to the next level in my career.”
Paul:
“I am hugely excited to be racing in British GT in a BMW M6 GT3 with Century Motorsport and with Ben Green. British GT is a hugely competitive series and looks like an amazing grid this year. I have raced with Century in the Dubai 24 Hours so know they are a great team and with the support from BMW Motorsport, I think it will be a really strong package. Ben Green is a highly rated driver who performed really well in GT4 this year. Whilst I have a lot to learn I am really excited about the season.”
