30 Years of Century Motorsport: A Journey of Growth and Triumph in Motorsport

Humble Beginnings

Humble Beginnings – “Century Race Preparation” van and a couple of 100cc karts

Century Motorsport was founded in 1995 by Clive Freke to support the racing ambitions of his son, Nathan, and fund a passion for motorsport. What started as a small karting team soon expanded, offering kart sales, preparation, engine rebuilding and trackside support—services that continue to define our ethos, albeit now in a different arena.Century were one of the most successful kart racing teams at club and national level.

By 2000, Nathan had joined the company full-time after leaving school, contributing to its rapid growth. Initially focused solely on karting, the team began transitioning into cars in 2004, operating in both disciplines for several years. This natural evolution mirrored Nathan’s own racing career, which saw Century Motorsport transform organically into a car racing team. During this period Century continued its successes both in karting winning multiple British Championships,  and cars, with Nathan winning the 2006 British Formula Ford Championship and nomination for BRDC / Mclaren / Autosport young driver of the year.

The Shift to Cars

In 2009, Century Motorsport made the pivotal decision to focus exclusively on cars. From 2004 to 2009, the team ran Formula Fords while also supporting Nathan’s racing journey in a Ginetta G50 within the Ginetta Supercup—a campaign that culminated in a championship whitewash win in 2009, winning over 50% of the races. This victory marked the beginning of Century Motorsport’s long-term presence in British GT and the Ginetta Supercup under the TOCA package.

Continued Success and Expansion

From 2009 to 2018, the team primarily competed with Ginetta machinery, including GT4 and GT3 entries. During this period, the G50 models evolved into the G55 in 2011. Another milestone was the team’s debut at the Dubai 24 Hours in 2016, where Century Motorsport claimed the SP3 class victory.

The year 2018 marked another turning point when Century Motorsport switched to BMWs in British GT, achieving remarkable success with 1st and 2nd place finishes in the drivers’ championship and winning the teams’ championship. The team has since clinched the British GT4 title three times and the GT3 title once.

Facilities and Future Goals

From its humble beginnings in a garage in the back garden, Century Motorsport moved to a Kidderminster unit before relocating to Fenny Compton in 2010. In 2017, the team moved into a state-of-the-art, purpose-built workshop, a testament to its exponential growth.

Looking ahead, the team’s ambitions include competing in the Bathurst 12 Hours, the Intercontinental GT Challenge, and ultimately, the pinnacle of endurance racing: the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

How the Name Century Motorsport Came to Be

The origins of Century Motorsport are deeply rooted in the karting world and a love for engineering precision. The name “Century” pays homage to the engine size of the karts the team originally ran. These 100cc engines were at the heart of the operation, with founder Clive meticulously rebuilding them to ensure peak performance.

This dedication to preparation and engineering excellence inspired the name Century Race Preparation—a fitting tribute to the 100cc engines that marked the team’s early years. Over time, as the team expanded and evolved, the name Century Motorsport became synonymous with a commitment to quality, precision, and success in racing.

This foundational ethos, born in the karting paddocks, continues to define Century Motorsport’s approach across every level of competition, from grassroots racing to global endurance events.
