Following a hugely successful prototype debut at Estoril in November, Century Motorsport are hoping to expand their prototype programme for 2017, starting with the three 120 minute races supporting the Dubai 24H in January.
Having made a big impression on his first sportscar appearance in Estoril, Euan McKay returns to the cockpit of the new look Century Motorsport Ginetta G57-P2 for the first rounds of the Creventic 24H Prototype Endurance Series in Dubai. Following a successful maiden season in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2016, McKay looked perfectly at home in the G57-P2, his performance playing a big part in the team’s podium finish.
The Dubai event will be somewhat of a family affair as Euan is joined by his equally talented bother Daniel McKay. Also spending 2016 in the Porsche Carerra Cup GB, this will be the first time the brothers will share the same car over a race. Sighting the move to prototypes as an important step in his career development, Daniel is confident that as brothers who understand each others strengths, they can push each other to some good results over the three races.
The 2017 Dubai 24H Prototype races will run over Tuesday and Wednesday following two practice sessions and qualifying. Each race will be three hours in total with the first race on Tuesday and final race on Wednesday running into darkness.
Euan McKay – #51 Century Motorsport Ginetta G57-P2:
“Having driven the G57-P2 in Estoril I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to race in it again, this time in Dubai. The car was brilliant to drive and I can’t wait to get back in the seat. After seeing the potential of Century in Estoril, they were much the obvious choice and so I’m looking forward to teaming up with them again. This also presents a new opportunity for me, in sharing a car with my brother for the first time. It’s great to have him onboard and I know how quick he is so there’s no doubts about the driver line-up in my eyes. This should mean we can challenge at the very front and hopefully bring home some more silverware!”
Daniel McKay – #51 Century Motorsport Ginetta G57-P2:
“I am over the moon to be getting the chance to sample the Ginetta G57-P2 over a race weekend! After hearing all that my brother Euan had said about his experience in Estoril I quickly became quite jealous and knew I needed to get behind the wheel sooner rather than later. The move into prototypes is something that every GT driver looks at doing at some stage, I just hadn’t expected that the jump would be so soon, and quite so big! I’ve always raced against Euan and we work well in that capacity bringing each other on, so getting to work together in the same car is an experience I have been looking forward to for quite some time.”
Nathan Freke, Team Principal, Century Motorsport:
“Stepping into the Prototype arena is something we have always aspired to do and we couldn’t have got off to a better start, finishing on the podium at our first event in Estoril. Our driver line up was very strong which was a big factor, and I’m confident that our driver pairing for Dubai will be just as strong. Having had a little more time with the car ahead of this event, it’s given us a good chance to get a better understanding of the Ginetta G57-P2, and crucially, we’ve got a fantastic design on the car so it should stand out. 2017 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for Century Motorsport, and this is one of our major new programmes and I certainly hope we can achieve some top results in Dubai to get our year off to the best possible start.”
