After a season of mixed results in 2013, Century Motorsport Team Principal Nathan Freke feel’s his team are the best prepared they have ever been and ready to win at the opening rounds of the 2014 Ginetta GT4 Supercup in Brands Hatch this weekend.
Single-seater graduate Tom Oliphant along with teammate and winner of the final GT4 Supercup round at Brands Hatch in 2013, Jamie Orton, have completed an extensive pre-season testing programme with the team which included three days in Portimao along with several days at the championship’s main circuits in the UK. “Testing has gone really well, the whole team has worked really hard to get the car to a place where I feel comfortable to push to the limit”, said Oliphant upon completing his final days testing at Donington Park. “We have taken a structured approach, starting with a plan for each test day to allow us to get the most out of the car and the circuit.”
Tom made the transition from Formula Renault in 2013 for two rounds of the Ginetta GT Supercup in Rockingham and Silverstone where he very quickly showed his potential. Signing a deal for 2014 with the team in Silverstone, Oliphant joined forces with Nathan Freke to win their class in the Britcar night race in Donington Park to get more experience of GT racing over the winter. Going to Brands Hatch, Oliphant is keen to make a firm impression on the championship from the off: “I am very confident we can compete at the front in Brands Hatch this weekend. Our aim has to be to come out of the weekend leading the championship and with the team behind me I feel this is a realistic target.”
Looking to pick up where he left off as a race winner in Brands Hatch, Jamie Orton has enjoyed his pre-season preparations: “Testing has gone well and I am confident of some strong top ten finishes this season. I’m hoping the reverse grid races will play in my favour again for some further podiums and hopefully add to my tally of race wins”.
Team Principal Nathan Freke complimented both of his drivers on a very successful winter testing programme looking ahead to the opening weekend in Brands Hatch: “Tom and Jamie have been really fast throughout all of our testing so far this year, making some fantastic improvements. We’ve all learned so much from doing so much running and I’m confident that we’ve never been so well prepared. Roll on Brands Hatch!”
