Century Motorsport expand GT4 line-up for 2014

Fresh from welcoming Rick Parfitt Jnr to the team alongside Tom Oliphant, Century Motorsport will expand their British GT4 operation to two cars for 2014.

Norway’s Aleksander Schjerpen and Denmark’s Morten Dons will join forces in the team’s second Ginetta G55 GT4. The pair are no strangers to Ginetta with Aleksander using a Ginetta G50 in Swedish GT last year while Morten is fresh from winning the Swedish Ginetta GT5 Challenge.

Aleksander began by saying how happy he was to join Century Motorsport: “I am super happy and very proud to get the opportunity to drive for Century Motorsport this season. The last two years, I’ve driven a Ginetta G50 with my own team in Scandinavia with good success, but this will be a big difference driving in British GT for such a successful team.”

Forming a new partnership for 2014 with Morten Dons, Aleksander is confident they will be a strong team: “I think Morten and I will make a strong team and get some good results. I’ve tested the new Ginetta G55 just once before but my first impression of the car is that it is really forgiving and nice to drive. The season ahead is very exciting, with lots to learn including a new car, new circuits and working with my new partner Morten. I hope we can get some good results and hopefully challenge for the championship.”

Swedish Ginetta GT5 Challenge Champion Morten Dons is equally enthusiastic about joining Century Motorsport this season: “I met Century Motorsport during a Ginetta test day and was very impressed with the whole team. They are very experienced and professional so I am looking forward to joining the grid with their skilled team behind me.”

As a newcomer to GT Racing, Morten is looking forward to his new partnership with Aleksander: “I don’t know Aleksander that well yet, but I know he has some experience with the G50 and has done quite well. I’m sure we will form a good partnership and represent the Scandinavian colours well! I’ve had just two tests in the new G55 and I was very impressed. It’s a very fast but stable car to drive so I can’t wait to start the pre-season testing so I can get in the car again!”

Having spent the last number of seasons challenging for the championship title, Team Principal Nathan Freke is confident that now is the right time to expand his team to two cars: “I’m delighted to welcome both Aleksander and Morten to Century Motorsport for 2014. We’ve proven over the last couple of seasons that we can consistently challenge for the title each year, so I feel that now is the right time to expand our team to run two cars in the championship. I’m confident that we’ve got one of the strongest teams in the championship with two very equal driver pairings so winning the championship is certainly our main aim this season.”
